With a Next Steps to Market grant, Ukrainian scientists from the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics and a researcher from Optimized Turbine Solutions of San Diego, California are developing recuperators for micro-turbine generators. Recuperators, most often used in boilers and furnaces, recover and recycle thermal energy from exhaust stream, thereby increasing energy efficiency. Boris Glezar of Optimized Turbine Solutions is the inventor of the dimpled heat-transfer system used in the project, which is more efficient, significantly cheaper and lighter weight than its competitors.
The U.S. team has applied for a U.S. patent on the project, while the Ukrainian scientists have applied for Ukrainian process manufacturing and equipment patents.
