Kanat Shakenov came to CRDF from the National Center for Biotechnology of the Republic of Kazakhstan where he was Deputy Director General in charge of international cooperation, marketing and commercialization.
Dr. Shakenov possesses extensive scientific experience gained at both Kazakh and international organizations, including the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), where he was the Project Manager for the “Support to the Program on Counteracting the AIDs Epidemic in Kazakhstan” program and as a Health Project Assistant with the United Nation’s Children’s Fund (UNICEF). He also was invited to participate in the Republic of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Education and Science’s State Program for Science Development, 2007-2012. He is a graduate of the Kazakh State Medical University and holds a Masters of Public Health degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Shakenov also completed a certificate program at the University of Pittsburgh in the management of non-profit organizations.
