CRDF seeks a Senior Development Manager to join its Development and External Relations (D&ER) team. The CRDF is a nonprofit charitable organization that promotes international science and technology collaboration in more than 30 countries in Eurasia, Middle East, Africa, and Asia.
The Senior Development Manager's primary responsibility is to lead and oversee fundraising from private-sector funding sources. The Senior Development Manager will manage a portfolio that is primarily focused on fundraising from U.S. and international private foundations and corporations. Other types of non-US government fundraising, such as individual donations, will be a secondary part of the portfolio.
The Senior Development Manager will report to the Senior Program Director (SPD) for Development & External Relations. The Senior Development Manager will have day to day supervision of a Development Assistant.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as the organization's lead in initiating, developing, and managing relationships with private foundations and corporations.
- Develop and implement annual plan to research, identify, and cultivate new private foundation and corporate donors.
- Working with the SPD and relevant program staff, take the lead in organizing and carrying out face-to-face meetings with prospective private-sector funders to explore potential areas of mutual interest.
- Implement follow-up and cultivation activities as appropriate.
- Coordinate timely production of private-sector proposals from inception through final submission, including preliminary correspondence and/or outlines, letters of intent or concept papers, and full proposals.
- Ensure ongoing stewardship of previous and new donors, including acknowledgements, regular correspondence, and follow-up reports as appropriate.
- In consultation with the SPD, continue to evaluate CRDF's potential to pursue other types of fundraising, including individual donations, major gifts, and planned giving.
- Manage the day to day work load of the Development Assistant.
- Meet regularly with other CRDF Senior Program staff in planning sessions to develop ideas and strategies for funding new programs or activities.
- As requested, prepare documents for Board Development Committee and other development-related meetings.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- At least five (5) years as a development officer or manager, in a position requiring coordinating approaches to multiple funding sources, direct interaction with donors, and strong writing and research skills.
- Demonstrated experience in successfully cultivating and securing grants or contracts over $100,000 from private foundations or corporations.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with different individuals, including staff, Board members, private foundation and corporate executives, major donors, and others.
- Demonstrated experience in supervising and managing employees.
- Excellent organizational skills and capability to successfully manage and work on numerous projects simultaneously.
- Experience with fundraising for international science or education programs preferred but not required.
- Experience with major gift programs or other fundraising from individuals preferred but not required.
- Close attention to detail and the ability to work under the pressure of deadlines.
- Strong understanding of generally accepted fundraising principles and ethics.
- Excellent administrative skills and computer literacy, including spreadsheet and word processing skills. Knowledge of Raiser's Edge or other fundraising software strongly preferred.
