Can I rent a car during my visit to the US Principal Investigator's lab and cover the expense with award funds?

Travelers must use the most reasonable form of transportation for the purposes of their trip in support of their project goals.  If there is a legitimate project-related need for a car rental, the expense may be allowable. Renting a car for personal purposes is not an allowable award expense.
