U.S.-Central Asia Research Travel (CART) Grant Competition

Deadline: CLOSED
Apply Online »

CRDF is currently accepting environmental science research proposals for its U.S.-Central Asia Research Travel grant competition. CRDF is pleased to provide an opportunity for Central Asian and U.S. scientists to develop cooperative research projects on environmental issues, which may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Agricultural ecology

  • Alternative energy development and application

  • Atmospheric science

  • Biodiversity

  • Climate change

  • Ecological degradation and recovery

  • Energy conservation

  • Environmental health

  • Hydrology

  • Pollution impact evaluation and management

  • Soil science

U.S.-Central Asia Research Travel Grants will provide up to $45,000 U.S. Dollars (USD) for 12 to 24 months of support to joint research teams of U.S. and Central Asian scientists and engineers. These funds should be used to finance U.S. researchers’ travel to eligible countries, Central Asian researchers’ travel to the United States, as well as equipment, materials, and some salaries. Travel by at least one team is required, and travel by both teams is encouraged. Individuals from the following countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, and Uzbekistan) are eligible to submit proposals in collaboration with a U.S. researcher (citizen or permanent resident).

CRDF is sponsoring this competition because environmental issues are of extreme importance in both, the United States and Central Asia. Environmental research, which is interdisciplinary in nature, lends itself well to collaborative projects. Additionally, lessons learned and methods applied in one region could provide potential solutions in another region. Since the most effective collaborations are those in which researchers work together in person, CRDF would like to provide funding to facilitate new and existing scientific partnerships that have the potential to produce meaningful impacts in Central Asia, the U.S., and other parts of the world.

Proposal Deadline EXTENDED: Friday, June 20, 2008 11:59 pm (23:59) Eastern Daylight Savings Time
