CRDF's Tony DiLorenzo and Steve Bergen will be attending the 76th International Federation of Libraries Associations (IFLA) General Conference and Assembly and will host a booth to promote the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's 2011 Access to Learning Award (ATLA).
Each year, CRDF presents the George Brown Award for International Scientific Cooperation to an individual for his or her critical work advancing critical issues through cross-border collaboration, in the spirit of the late Congressman's vision. In 2010, CRDF is pleased to recognize three individuals for their scientific and humanitarian achievements: Dr. Bruce Alberts, the late Dr. Norman Borlaug, and Senator Richard Lugar.
This practicum will include professional skills development sessions for technology transfer professionals; workshops for students and faculty; business plan competition and travel grants for additional training and experience in the U.S.
CRDF will be hosting an invitation-only event on Thursday, July 22, 2010 entitled, "Science Engagement for U.S. Diplomacy and Global Development." At this event, speakers will highlight the value of science engagement to advance U.S. diplomacy and global development priorities.
CRDF's Dmitry Soustin and Rosalyn Leitch will attend the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management (INMM) Annual Meeting in Baltimore Maryland from 12 to 15 July 2010. The meeting will provide a forum for the exchange of the newest technical information related to all aspects of nuclear materials management.
This interdisciplinary research conference is supported by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of the National Institutes of Health (NIH/NIAID), United States Department of Health and Human Services. Scientists from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) will discuss research opportunities related to bacterial waterborne and emerging infectious diseases important to the MENA Region. Disease focus areas for this conference are Cholera, Typhoid, Leptospirosis and Brucellosis. CRDF and the United States Department of State, perviously announced a targeted, collaborative grant competition titled "Bacterial Waterborne and Emerging Infectious Diseases in North Africa and the Middle East (MENA)."
CRDF Nonproliferation Program's Valerie Antsiferova and Anne Peckham will travel to Oxford to attend the Nuclear Smuggling International Technical Working Group (ITWG) meeting from 28 June to 1 July 2010. The objective of this meeting is to discuss nuclear forensics concepts, methods and cooperation in this area as tools for governments to promote nuclear security and prevent illicit uses of nuclear materials.
CRDF Senior Program Manager Natalia Pipia and Associate Program Manager Meaza Zerihun Demissie will attend and present at the 2nd Science with Africa conference, organized by United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) to explore policies, measures and mechanisms for promoting innovation and entrepreneurship to meet development challenges in Africa. The Conference will feature an Innovation/Patent Fair, an investment round table, a round table with women scientists and inventors, tailored training for inventors and entrepreneurs and a Science and Technology Exhibition. CRDF representatives will present during the "Science, Innovation and Entrepreneurship" plenary session.
