CRDF hosts events abroad as well as in the United States. Many of the workshops and seminars held overseas are open to scientists and entrepreneurs by application; for details, see the individual postings below.
Other events bring scientists to the United States to attend and present at international conferences. CRDF occasionally hosts seminars and lectures, primarily in Washington, DC, to discuss nonproliferation and nation-building issues. Other CRDF events seek to engage CRDF grantees and U.S. businesses through networking events in industry-specific areas. Past events have brought together scientists and business professionals to discuss renewable energy, public health and nanotechnology.
The indigenous institutions that CRDF has founded in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Moldova also often join the Foundation to co-host scientific conferences or entrepreneurship workshops.

Right now, countries throughout the Middle East are planning or embarking on new science and technology initiatives to bridge the gap between the region and the world's most developed knowledge societies. CRDF and the Brookings Institution, in conjunction with Representative Rush Holt and the House Research and Development Caucus, will host a panel discussion on Capitol Hill to highlight the benefit to the U.S. of further engaging with the Middle East as it builds these scientific and technical capacities. This is a luncheon event and will feature Dr. Farouk El-Baz, Research Professor and Director of the Center for Remote Sensing, Boston University.

The U.S. Civilian Research & Development Foundation (CRDF) will lead an international panel, "The Reemergence of Science, Technology and Education as Priorities in the Arab World," of science and technology specialists at the 2010 AAAS Annual Meeting from the Arab region in a discussion of the progress that the Arab world has made, and needs to make, in order to build a knowledge society. U.S. specialists will provide case studies of how science and technology have been used to create a knowledge society in the U.S. Regional panelists will focus on the role of science in their countries and how their organizations are addressing national challenges and moving towards a knowledge society.
The U.S. Department of State's Preventing Nuclear Smuggling Program (PNSP) is planning to contribute to the 14th Nuclear Smuggling International Technical Working Group (ITWG) meeting, which will take place on June 29-July 2, 2009 in Vienna, Austria, by assisting 14 event participants with travel. CRDF is an implementing agency of the DOS and will provide travel support for 2 experts from each country: Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Pakistan. It is well known that innovation drives the economic prosperity of all nations and nearly all policy makers and business professionals agree that intellectual property plays an important role in driving innovation. CRDF's workshop on Intellectual Property is designed to provide participants with an overview and core knowledge of Intellectual Property protection and present current industry trends for those interested in protecting their IP. Attendees will receive hands-on training from veteran business development professionals and legal advisors using real world case-studies. Participants will learn about intellectual property and contract basis, forming strategic alliances, and negotiating a license.

The Advanced Research Workshop (ARW), "Using Satellite and In situ Data to Improve Sustainability" will take place from June 9-12, 2009 in Kyiv, Ukraine. CRDF Associate Program Manager Meaza Demissie has been invited by the International Council of Associations for Science Education to attend and present at the 2009 Africa Regional Conference. This year’s conference is on the “Challenges to Sustainable Development in Africa through Science and Technology Education”. The conference is held in Abuja, Nigeria from May 24-29. A paper titled “Integrating Research and Education in Africa: Lessons from Eurasia” will be presented at this conference. This paper describes a strategy for development of research based higher education that promises not to solve Africa’s problems for it, but rather to initiate a process that will provide it the indigenous, internationally engaged experts to solve them on its own.
